TOEFL

TOEFL Preparation Course

If you are planning on taking the Internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language, this course can help you improve your score. This test, often called TOEFL iBT, measures the English proficiency of nonnative speakers of English. It is widely accepted by English-language colleges and universities around the world.

Who Should Register

This course is designed for students with an intermediate to advanced level of English proficiency who plan to take the TOEFL iBT and want to improve their grammatical accuracy and understanding of academic English. Note: Students in the Intensive English Program (IEP) must complete Level 5 courses or higher to be eligible for this course.

Course Details

This course focuses on English language skills covered on the TOEFL iBT test. In keeping with the design of the test, the course emphasizes the integration of two or more skills, such as listening and writing or reading and speaking. Along with specific skills-building work, you will review the different tasks and sections of the TOEFL.

The instructor will introduce key strategies to approach each section of the test, and you will extensively practice each of the four sections. You will also take short practice tests, although you will not take an actual TOEFL iBT in the course.

IELTS

IELTS Preparation Course

If you are planning on taking the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), a test that measures the language proficiency of people who want to study or work in environments where English is used as a language of communication, this course can help you improve your score. This test, often called IELTS, measures the English proficiency of nonnative speakers of English. It is widely accepted by English-language colleges and universities around the world. An easy-to-use 9-band scale clearly identifies proficiency level, from non-user (band score 1) through to expert (band score 9).

ACT

The ACT class is recommended for college-bound juniors and seniors planning to take the ACT. Taking this course will prepare students for all of the question types found on the ACT. We will analyze each of the test question areas and give special consideration to math and verbal refreshers and techniques aimed at relieving test-taking anxiety. Topics include sentence completions and reading comprehension for the reading section, grammar and essay writing for the writing section, scientific concepts for the science section, and basic and advanced math concepts (including fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, proportions) and algebraic and geometric concepts for the math sections. Note: $550 books are not included in the tuition.

GLS Test Preparation - students

SAT

SAT Prep is designed to help prepare students for the SAT test. In addition to reviewing the basic verbal and mathematical skills assessed on the SAT test, students learn test-taking strategies specific to the exam. Although all sections of the SAT will be covered, emphasis will be place on mathematics. Material includes samples with explanations, grading rubrics for peer and self-assessment, practice tests with complete multiple-choice assessments, essays prompts, and study resources. Independent practice is followed by guided collaborative review. Upon successful completion, students will possess the tools necessary to complete the SAT to the best of their ability. Note: $550 books are not included in the tuition.

GMAT

Designed for both those taking the GMAT for the first time and those wanting to improve upon a previous GMAT score, The North American University’s GMAT Strategies course provides a minimum of 16 classroom hours of comprehensive overview of GMAT structure and scoring, detailed analyses of the content of all GMAT verbal and quantitative sections, and brief overviews of the GMAT integrated reasoning and essay sections. Lecture is supplemented with demonstration and numerous brief practice quizzes stressing application of the concepts taught and techniques modeled by the instructor.

Students are taught attack strategies, question analysis/simplification methods, and answer evaluation techniques through actual GMAT question-focused explanations. Assignments emphasize individual drills designed to hone skills and improve efficiency. Note: $600 books are not included in the tuition.

GRE

Preparation for the GRE requires an investment of time. In our course, we will help you manage your preparation time and supply you with the essential tools necessary to achieve a high score on the exam. There is no doubt that a high GRE Score will greatly increase your chances of attaining admission to the university of your choice.

By examining each area of the GRE in depth- verbal, quantitative and the New Writing Assessments, you will know what to expect and be able to set goals for improving your performance level. Students will be given two in-class practice tests. They will also have access to computers with GRE software, enabling them to become familiar with the computer-based exam. Note: $600 books are not included in the tuition.
